Taking that leap
by: Beva

Hi Jessica,

You are incredible. Hearing how you are willing to try out and venture into new areas is indeed respectable. I do agree that this course is beyond just a course of requirements and Prof indeed been a facilitator than a Professor most of the time. This is where she encourages us to take the first step as she create the platform for us. It was indeed interesting to hear when you present that you only did real accounting in this course as it was the first time you had to expose to realistic figures :)

I do feel that you have what it takes to start your own business. Perhaps just need the right people and the right skills and there you go :)

I hope you best in your journey ahead.

Cheers,
Bevan

Academic vs Practical
by: Mariyam Shaguftha

I share the same sentiment regarding how it was totally more than what we expected. I think this is because in our student life we are only given academic knowledge but no hand-on experiences. I myself has once been in the dilemma where all formats and formular that i learned didn't help much, when i first joined my job in accountancy. Its great that you got to learn this without risking much through this course. I'm sure the experiences u've learned made you more prepared for actual employment, if you decide to take any.

Good luck with the business. :)

Academic vs Practical
by: Mariyam Shaguftha

I share the same sentiments in how the course turned out to be more than expected. I believe that it is because of how in our student life we have always been trained in academic area, however, not given much chances to have actual hands-on experience. I myself faced the dilemma of seeing all the formats and formulas learned in class being so little of help when I first took a job in accountancy. I'm sure that now you have the experience of doing it for your project, you would be more prepared when you start to work, if you ever chose to do so.

Good luck with the business ahead. :)

Hey Jessica, seems like there are actually quite alot of SMU students who are entrepreneurial isnt it? After going through this course, it has made me feel less intimidated to start a business too. Just like you, I have learnt alot from Prof's stories and its really encouraging!

good alternative job!
by: Jolene Cheong

Hey Jess! I was surprised to see u in the same class in the 1st lesson! haha you are the only girl in your group and female CFO in the team!We have heard our friends complain so much about auditing and wanting to quite, maybe setting up a business of your own (with ur weiwei) can be a much better alternative than being a lowly-paid auditor!

All the best for your future!

like everyone else...
by: Cai Xihao

I'm guessing a lot of us bidded this course out of necessity, based on the comments seen so far. And I think few expected to gain so much out of this course and even more, enjoying the class so much.

I guess everyone has taken something different away from the course I wish you the very best in the future.

by: Marilyn Ong

Yes! I agree though. I really think this course is totally way different from every single module I've taken so far! The lessons and things we learn through this course will bring us everywhere in the future. I don't really see the skills I learn in other courses can bring me anywhere though haha!
Nice to know you! :)

CFO :)
by: Vincent LAI

Being your friend and your teammate, i must say you have created significant value in our team. As the CFO you are the "number" role in the team to protect our dreams.

We could have gone wild wanting to implement everything, but you bring us back by telling us we only have so much money/resources, let's do by what we have.

Thank you. :)

Balancing the Balance Sheet
by: Edmund Tan

I'm sure the construction of the financial statements must have provided you with lots of learning experience right? I remember having to construct them from scratch, it was a bitch. More importantly, i think being accountancy students mean trying to sell our skill sets to people. In fact, i think its one of the best skills to have. you can either choose to work for people (aka the big four) or you can take charge of the numbers in your own business. everyone needs someone to count the cash! Good luck with your career Jessica =)

Same sentiments!
by: Priscila Lin

I too, bidded this course out of necessity and I didn't expect myself to gain so much out of this course and best, enjoyed coming to class every lesson.

I hope you took away valuable lessons and insights from the class, just like I did. I wish you every success as you graduate! :)

A great team member
by: Elvin Ong

I too appreciate working together and learn some interesting new insights from you as well. We worked together in a team and you have your specialized skills which were really helpful throughout this entire course. Also, frequently you'll be able to spot missing pieces on important issues that we missed out during our planning stage. It was great working with you. Keep it up =)

Somehow all of us are in the same boat
by: Eric Zhang

Just like you, I too took on this Module because it is a requirement and not a choice. And we all benefited from the outcomes of this course. After going through different stages of the course, we all learn precious experiences that theories and textbooks cannot teach or induce in us. The feedback sessions made us learn to humble ourselves down and to always keep an open mind for critiques and comments for improvements.

This course did not happen as an accident. It was planned so that we all learn an grow and get ourselves ready for the real world.

All the best !

Yes, agree!
by: Jacqueline

Hey Jess,

Totally agree with you. I enjoyed the atmosphere in class whereby everyone gives input to improve our projects too (: Thanks for your input in ours and hope we did give some constructive ones to you too, even if u dont remember it! haha.

And yes, now it doesn't seem as impossible to start a business isn't it?? All the best for the future!

Much more than just a course requirement
by: Ashley

Hey Jessica,

Much more than just a course requirement - that's right! From what I understand, a lot of us took this up to fulfill a Tech/Ent module. But look what that random decision has taken you.

I think the hands-on part was really the best. Most modules boast real-world scenarios, but it doesn't get any closer than this. I'm sure know you're a lot more confident with financial statements having done an actual one from the bottom-up.

Just curious, are you continuing the iphone app biz? It'll be quite awesome if you guys do.

Wish you all the best! Continue to aim high, and see you at the next gathering involving Serene Tan Yan Ning?

Cheers!
